Hypnosis For Fertility

Can Hypnotherapy Help Increase Fertility?

Wondering why your body is creating blocks that stop you from what is most important to you, having a child?

Hypnosis works on the premise that the mind influences the body, the mind body connection can both aid and hinder, when this connection is out of balance.  Hypnotherapy can help support creating balance and so help increase fertility

Using Hypnotherapy  I can support  your mind to think what it would be most useful to think  to support  your body in feeling and behaving in a way  that it is most useful to enhance your ability to conceive.

Hypnotherapy supports fertility by changing your thoughts and this in turn can support   improving  your ability to conceive and have a successful pregnancy or increase fertility.

Infertility may have psychological and or medical reasons.

Hypnotherapy can support healing by uncovering issues that may be unconsciously or consciously blocking you from conceiving.

Causes of Infertility

Infertility has numerous causes and according to the NHS:

In 25 to 30 per cent of cases a physical cause cannot be identified

For many of you this should be a point of positive hope and here hypnotherapy can hep to identify and remove underlying blocks that you are perhaps not aware of.

Of course for many of you it is important to understand the physical reasons for your current challenge with fertility:

Infertility in women

Ovulation disorders: this is the most common cause and general patterns are that an egg is not released or only released during certain cycles

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome:  A condition that makes it difficult for your ovaries to produce an egg.

Thyroid problems: Both an overactive thyroid gland and an under-active thyroid gland  can prevent ovulation.

Premature ovarian failure: Where a woman’s ovaries stop working before she is 40.

Womb and fallopian tubes: The fallopian tubes are the tubes along which an egg travels from the ovary to the womb. The egg is fertilised as it travels down the fallopian tubes ,to the womb where it is implanted into the womb’s lining. When the womb or the fallopian tubes are damaged conceiving naturally can become an issue causes include:

Scarring from surgery: Pelvic  and cervical surgery can sometimes cause damage to either the tubes or the neck of the womb respectively.

Cervical mucus defect: When you are ovulating, mucus in your cervix becomes thinner so that sperm can swim through it more easily. If there is a problem with your mucus, it can make it harder to conceive.

Submucosal fibroids:  develop in the muscle beneath the inner lining of the womb and grow into the middle of the womb fertility can be reduced. Fibroids  are non-cancerous tumours that grow in, or around, the womb. If  Submucosal fibroids

Endometriosis: when pieces of the womb lining, the endometrium, start growing in other places, such as the ovaries causing  infertility because these new growths block or distort the pelvis. These make it difficult for an egg to be released and become implanted into the womb.

Pelvic inflammatory disease: PID is an infection of the upper female genital tract, which includes the womb, fallopian tubes and ovaries. It is often the result of a sexually transmitted infection. PID can damage and scar the fallopian tubes, making it virtually impossible for an egg to travel down into the womb.

Age: Infertility in women is connected to age. Fertility decreases during the mid thirties. Among women who are 35, 95% will get pregnant after three years of having regular unprotected sex. For women who are 38, only 75% will get pregnant after three years of having regular unprotected sex. ( Statistics from the NHS website)

Infertility in men

Male infertility is caused by abnormal semen  and reasons include:

Decreased number of sperm –which means  a very low sperm count, or no sperm at all.

  • Decreased sperm mobility – If you have decreased sperm mobility, it will be harder for your sperm to swim to the egg.
  • Abnormal sperm – Sometimes sperm can be an abnormal shape, making it harder for them to move and fertilise an egg.
  • Many cases of abnormal semen are unexplained, but there are several factors that can affect semen and sperm.

Testicles

The testicles are responsible for producing and storing sperm. If they are damaged it can seriously affect the quality of your semen. This may occur if you have, or have had in the past, any of the following:

  • an infection of your testicles
  • testicular surgery
  • a congenital defect (a problem with your testicles that you were born with)
  • undescended testicles (when one or both of your testicles has not descended into the scrotum)
  • trauma (injury) to your testicles
  • testicular Cancer

Absence of sperm: Your testicles may produce sperm, but it may not reach your semen. The absence of sperm in your semen is known as obstructive azoospermia. This could be due to a blockage in one of the tiny tubes that make up your reproductive system, which may have been caused by an infection or surgery.

Ejaculation disorders

  • retrograde ejaculation, where semen is ejaculated into your bladder
  • premature ejaculation, where ejaculation occurs too quickly
  • Hypogonadism is an abnormally low level of testosterone, the male sex hormone that is involved in making sperm. This could be due to a tumour, taking illegal drugs or Kallman’s syndrome (a rare disorder caused by a faulty gene).

So that is all the bad news! Yes there is a lot of it! This is of course not an exhaustive list though it may be quite exhausting and even debilitating to read. Some of you may even notice feeling tired and dejected if your specific challenge is listed.

You are not alone!

It is absolutely natural that that you would experience stress at this time however in order to improve your chances of fertility it is time to get Serious about relaxing and supporting your body in becoming more fertile.

Have you ever noticed in an argument or a fight how useless it is to battle on, it can feel as if you’re battling against a brick wall, it hurts, is ineffective and is exhausting, perhaps a little like reading that list of problems.

Your body reacts to bad news, hormones are released where you feel sad and bad, of course it is important to a have the facts – NOW it is important to focus on resolving the issue – because people do, miracle births happen despite the odds and funnily enough we often hear that it happens when people have given up hope, given up the fight – and that is the point

STOP FIGHTING AND GET SERIOUS ABOUT RELAXING!!

Yoga for fertility

I use both hypnotherapy and  yogic breathing techniques to balance the mind and body, optimising and restoring hormonal imbalances and so supporting your body in healing itself.

When  you relax your mind you are able to support your bodies hormones in behaving in a way that supports fertility and healing.

When we support our bodies in releasing hormones that support relaxation we can direct the body to stop creating the hormone cortisol, responsible for our fear response and released in situations of stress. Instead releasing endorphins and other hormones to support you in:

  • Healing your body using hypnotherapy and so aiding fertility issues
  • Holding on to a fertilised egg using hypnotherapy  visualisation
  • Increasing the release of eggs by your body by supporting your mind to help this happen
  • Increase sperm mobility, getting lazy sperm ready to run the marathon

Lots of couples understandably report that stress takes the fun out of sex – your body and your mind is behaving in a way that is releasing everything you should not be – we are after all a bundle of cells and hormones. Just ask a woman on her monthly cycle about the emotional changes she experiences!

A relaxed mind contributes to a relaxed body.  A relaxed body is a soft body that is more likely to allow conception to happen.

How I can help successful fertility using hypnotherapy

The unconscious mind controls our involuntary processes such as digestion, breathing, ovulation, fertilisation, and our fight or flight responses. Our conscious mind is everything that is in our immediate awareness.

Through hypnotherapy alignment and harmony can be established between your conscious and unconscious mind. When that happens you’re able to direct your body to do what you would like it to do. Increase mobility of sperm, increase a release of eggs, heal the body. Just as you are able to control you breathing, by working to direct the unconscious mind to change how it is functioning in relation to specific organs in your body, we can consciously influence the unconscious to work and change your specific issue.

Alignment and harmony can be established between your conscious and unconscious mind. When that happens you’re back in the driving seat able to choose what your actions will be, leaving old reactions firmly in the past and instead allowing you to plan and choose how to Respond to situations.

I use the best of western science and eastern philosophies working in a holistic way around your specific fertility issues.

The issues many women experience are:

Fear and anxiety

Issues from previous traumatic IVF cycles

Miscarriages

Fear of pain

Loss of control during birth

Fear of parenthood

To name but a few.

I work with individuals to support them in becoming more confident, we do not know what may happen during a birth, however what we can do is prepare ourselves fully to be able to take control of our own experience.

I  use positive forward visualisation, pain control techniques and teach self hypnosis.

With preparation, just like anything else in life, we are able to take control back over our bodies and allow ourselves to feel capable to manage the natural process of conceiving and having a child.

I have a good understanding of the process that your clients go through. As well as Cognitive Hypnotherapy I use solution focussed techniques, Emotional Freedom Techniques and Eye movement Integration. I have a background in yoga and use breathing techniques.

I understand that each client is individual so having a broad tool box allows me to have different options dependent upon what issues a client presents with.

Conception requires the balance of a delicate set of hormones which constantly change throughout the cycle. Hypnotherapy has been shown to affect the hypothalamus within the brain, which controls the release of  fertility hormones and those that are released as a result of the stress response.

Fertility Research

A growing wealth of evidence to supports that hypnotherapy can help increase fertility, I’ve provided a couple of examples below:

http://www.ox.ac.uk/media/news_releases_for_journalists/100811.html

In Israel a study was conducted using hypnotherapy to increase fertility:

“According to Levitas’s team from Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, hypnosis can double the success of IVF treatment. Levitas’s study of 185 women found that 28% of women in the group who were hypnotized became pregnant, compared with 14% of those who were not.”

The body has an amazing ability to heal itself, and whether you know the reason for your infertility or not by connecting with the unconscious mind we can direct it to do what it is you want to do, have a child. If there are underlying emotional blocks these can be brought to the surface and released.

There are many, many cases in history where people have cured themselves of cancer, walked after they have been told that they never would, had children though the medical odds were stacked against them.

I have trained with Babyquest, experts in working with fertility issues both clinically and through supporting natural conception  and so have a good understanding of how Hypnotherapy and other healing techniques can support you on this journey whether it be through natural conception or through IVF and other related techniques.

I understand that this journey  can be full of both emotional and physical challenges.

Using Hypnotherapy, coaching and other techniques I supports Individuals and couples in conceiving and going to full term either naturally or whilst undergoing IVF treatment.

I  provide one to one sessions as well as group relaxation strategies for fertility clinics.

We can support you in achieving what you want to achieve, a child, family.
